March 2014

I am excited to have PLUSH (a stuffed portfolio) accepted into MAPC PRINT CITY: Detroit 2014

This project invites participants to explore the world of printed, plush and stuffed objects. The portfolio, which will be soft in nature, will be formatted to fit inside a fabric carrying-tote. The 12 artists included are asked to explore non-traditional format through fabric printing and sewing. This portfolio will scrutinize attitudes on high vs. low art and handmade vs. manufactured products. Through this process the concept of binaries as related to art will be challenged and considered by both maker and viewer.

Stay tuned for the artists and updates on the project!

June 2012

I have been working on a temporary public art project through the Avenue of the Arts in Kansas City, MO that will be up through September.  My installation the "Ice Storm" is located on Central & 10 Street KCMO.

I am excited that it is almost complete and that the outcome is very close to my proposal visually.  The project has been challenging in terms of scale and working with the natural elements.  I had some supportive and helpful people working with me along the way.  The opening for all of the installtions for Avenue of the Arts is Friday, June 15th (4:30-6:30).

May 2012

I love living Lawrence, KS.  It is a great community!  When a local record store, Love Garden, asked me to put some work in the shop I was really excited.  I went to work creating some special porcelain lp's.  They will be up for the month of June.  Here is a little write-up:

March 2012

I have 2 pieces included in this exhibiton.

Right Here Over There

Lexington Art League - Loudoun House Gallery - Lexington, KY

March 23 – May 13, 2012

Right Here Over There is an exhibition exploring the physical, mental, and metaphoric landscapes of place and their indelible link to memory. Throughout our lives we are surrounded by a world punctuated by varying spaces, climates, geographies, buildings, and cultures. Accumulating in layers over time, pieces of our physical world provide visual reference points for how we understand one another and ourselves.  Curated by Becky Alley (LAL Exhibitions and Programs Director).

I am really excited about this portfolio exchange that I am in based on repeat imagery for SGC 2012.

"Sisters" silkscreen and woodcut

In The Background
Themed Portfolio for 2012 SGCI Conference in New Orleans, LA
In The Background exchange portfolio will be a tribute to our decorative and commercial printmaking history. The styles, patterns and the subject matters depicted in each print reveal how we locate ourselves geographically, socially, culturally, and historically: where we live, where we came from, and where we want to go.

Often in the background, the use of wallpaper throughout history has been of an ephemeral nature. Whether it was used to transport ourselves to a picturesque French landscape in our own living rooms or to cover and conceal what lies underneath, wallpaper has the ability to create a mood and atmosphere. As styles changed over time, so did the coverings on our walls.

Artists will make their own wallpaper designs based on their diverse interests and backgrounds while addressing the culture of this man-made environment and the potential transformation of an interior space. Using both conventional and unconventional subject matters, each print will be a sample wallpaper section with the potential to expand to become a continuous pattern. The completed portfolio could resemble a high-end wallpaper sample book providing a sense of potential to be used as wallpapers, and at the same time, each print will be able to stand alone as an image.

There are some great artists in this portfolio (Artists: Kristi Arnold, Katie Baldwin, Laura Berman, Teresa Cole, Christa Dalien, Kristina Estell, Adriane Herman, Mary Anne Jordan, Mari LaCure, Yoonmi Nam, Serena Perrone, Nicolette Ross).  Take a look at what they have been working on.

The Charlotte Street Foundation is a fantastic organization in Kansas City that supports artists in many ways.  In 2009-2010 I was awarded a Studio Residency, and I have been a part of a few exhibitions at Paragraph Gallery.  They used one of my images as a button for a recent fundraiser.
